Human Trafficking in Northern Ireland.

The BBC has reported growing fears that Northern Ireland is being used as a transit country for victims of human trafficking being forced into prostitution in the Republic of Ireland and in the UK. Not only that, but Northern Ireland could also be a destination for people being trafficked into forced prostitution.
The head of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, Monica McWilliams, said
“Northern Ireland is not only used as a transit country, it’s also a country of destination. We do know that traffickers are using routes from Dublin via Belfast to London. We also know that women are coming to Dublin through Northern Ireland and various ports.”
Police question the amount of concrete evidence of growing human trafficking, but Professor McWilliams claims that this is not surprising given the fear of reprisals that victims experience if they testify. For more on this and related subjects, please visit
